When Hide & Seek Kids reached out about a custom cubby project for Paris Hilton's family, the brief was clear from the very first conversation: iconic, bold, playful, and unmistakably Paris. And while the final cubby was built and installed in Los Angeles, every design element you see inside it — the custom cubby wallpaper, acrylic wall art, and carefully considered colour story — was designed, refined, and produced right here in Australia.
This is the behind-the-scenes story of how it all came together.
A Cubby Project That Started With Vision, Not Timber
Custom cubby projects on this scale don't begin at a hardware store. They begin months earlier, with detailed design conversations, back-and-forth revisions, and a shared commitment to getting every detail right before a single wall goes up.
Working closely with the Hide & Seek Kids team, we built out a complete design direction for the space — one that needed to feel larger than life, photograph beautifully, and carry the Paris Hilton aesthetic through every detail.
That meant every choice had to be deliberate:
- Colour palettes selected to pop, shine, and photograph beautifully both inside and outside the cubby
- Custom cubby wallpaper designed as a bold feature — not a background
- Acrylic wall art created to add depth, personality, and that signature sparkle
This cubby was never going to blend in. It was designed to be a destination.

Designing From Australia: The One-Woman Show Behind the Magic
Unlike the build team, I don't fly over for installs — at least, not yet. Little Abodes Interiors is a small family-run business, operated alongside real family life, which means my role in every project is deeply focused from start to finish.
For a project like this, that means:
- All design work completed from my home studio in Australia
- Every product designed, produced, checked, and packed by hand
- International shipping coordinated with zero room for error
- No on-site reprints. No last-minute fixes. Just months of preparation leading to one short window where everything has to land perfectly.
That final production sprint — when designs are signed off, prints are running, acrylic is being cut, and everything is being wrapped for travel — is always a sprint to the finish line. But it's also one of the most satisfying parts of what I do.

Once production wrapped, everything was carefully wrapped, double-checked, and handed over to the Hide & Seek Kids team to take with them to Los Angeles for installation.
That moment never gets easier — months of work leaving your hands with no ability to course-correct on the other side.
But then come the progress photos. The build updates. And finally, the reveal.
Seeing the finished Paris Hilton cubby wasn't just exciting because of who it was for. It was special because it proved something: that a small, family-run Australian business can design and produce pieces that travel to the other side of the world and hold their own at the highest level.
