Cubby House & Play Kitchen Installation Guide | Little Abodes Interiors

Make your child’s space magical with our easy-to-install wallpapers and splash backs—perfectly sized for Hide and Seek Kids and Gumnut Kids cubbies, mud kitchens, and IKEA Duktig play kitchens. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know for a smooth install.

🏡 Installing Cubby House Wallpaper

Our cubby wallpapers are custom-made to fit the feature wall of your Hide and Seek Kids or Gumnut Kids cubby house, right up to the peak if applicable. A small bleed is included in the design to accommodate slight manufacturing variances, so no measuring is required—just trim any excess during installation!

What You’ll Receive:

  • Wallpaper panels with a 1cm overlap for seamless joining

  • Panels sized to fit your selected cubby model

What You’ll Need:

  • Corflute or pre-painted ply (to create a flat surface)

  • Heavy-duty double-sided tape

  • Dry, lint-free cloth

  • Wallpaper panels

  • Scissors or a craft knife

Note: Do not apply our wallpaper directly to the cubby wall—it’s too textured. We highly recommend using corflute, available at hardware stores. There’s no need to use Viponds Prep Coat on corflute.

🛠 Installation Steps

Step 1: Prepare the Surface

  1. Measure your cubby wall and cut your corflute to size.

  2. If needed, join two sheets using thin tape—make sure the surface remains smooth.

  3. Wipe the corflute with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust.

Step 2: Attach the Corflute

  • Mount it to your cubby wall using strong double-sided tape.

  • Ensure it's fully secure before applying wallpaper.

Step 3: Install the Wallpaper

  1. Peel a small section of the backing sheet (5–10cm).

  2. Stick the top of the wallpaper to the corflute and smooth down with your hand.

  3. Slowly continue peeling and smoothing as you go.

  4. Use scissors or a craft knife to trim excess around the edges or peak.

💡 Pro Tip:

Wallpapering above and below the white beam inside the cubby creates a gorgeous “picture rail” effect and makes installation easier! For this:

  • Cut a triangle from corflute for the peak section.

  • Apply wallpaper, then mount it separately.

  • Do the same for the base section.

🌿 Using Decals in Your Cubby

Our wall decals are a simple way to add charm—no prep needed! You can apply them directly to painted cubby walls. Press into the grooves or smooth over them, depending on your desired look.

🌤 Outdoor Use Tips

Our wallpapers and decals are suitable for outdoor use in cubbies, but a little extra care goes a long way.

  • Avoid direct sun & rain: Shelter = longer lifespan

  • Paint & seal your cubby for added protection

  • Keep adhesive clean during install to ensure a strong bond

🧼 Cleaning & Care

  • Gently wipe with a damp cloth only—no scrubbing or cleaning agents

  • Regular checks are recommended to ensure everything stays securely in place
